11.02.07. PARADISO, AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND (Backstage Interview) 8mins 9

This is a Fab Channel online concert channel so it‘s not like a normal digital TV broadcast. It’s bloody good so just down graded it because a web cast. They band play the first two albums in running order and then the United Artists singles A’s & B’s 77-78.
The screen size is fine on the pc but on DVD player it misses a section of sides - song titles when they come up? Great show and the band just play great. 20 second pause at 54:35.

Running time 107mins with full menu/song titles. Region 0 (Pal)

BUZZCOCKS (LPDVD526)
27.03.05. KING GEORGES HALL, BLACKBURN (Pro Shot) 30mins 10

Shot by students with at least two cameras. Great steady filming with good lighting and mixing desk audio. Good close in zoom shots with end credits. Same more wasn’t filmed.

UK SUBS (LPDVD527)
07.12.07. ASTORIA, LONDON (Private) 70mins 10 (Original Subs 78/79 Line Up)

Shot with permission of the band (one camera) on the stage and moves to front and other side of stage getting very close shots. This is the classic original Subs line from 1978/1979. The band just play songs from the first two albums and early singles. Lighting is great and the sound is fairly good. Very nice show with this classic line-up.

Very poor menu and chapters every 5mins. Region 0 (Pal)

Looks like a 1st generation or maybe a master as it’s an excellent picture. Filmed on the left hand-side more to the middle. Good clear views with fairly close in zoom shots. Audio is pretty good for an large venue with lighting being OK with some dark patches at times. Good private show overall.

DEAD KENNEDYS (LPDVD535)
10.11.85. CITY GARDENS, TRENTON, NEW JERSEY 53mins 7

This is supposedly the new 2009 upgrade. Filmed from the right hand side and fairly close to the stage, raised above heads so no obstructions. Nice close in steady filming. The audio is mixing desk/soundboard with the guitar a little lower in the mix. The sound is slightly muffled on the faster sections of songs but it’s listen-able. Although this show is more generated to the Washington show I prefer this as it’s closer filming with better camera work. Cuts on the last song Jock O Rama.

Region 0 (NTSC) with full menu and song titles/chapters.

DEAD KENNEDYS
(LPDVD536)
18.11.85. - W.U.S.T. HALL, WASHINGTON D.C. (Private) 74mins 8

This is supposedly the new 2010 upgrade. Filmed on a tripod from balcony so no obstructions. There are some zoom in shots, but a fair bit of still camera work covering the whole Stage/band. Lighting is OK but dimmers a little for the last 20mins of the show but you can see what’s going on. Audio is mixing desk/soundboard so pretty good.

GREEN DAY (LPDVD541)

04.10.00. ROSELAND BALLROOM, NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK (Pro Shot) 111mins 8
Show that was filmed for the internet only. Obviously this won’t be as good as TV broadcast and although at certain angles the picture is excellent but it’s obviously suffers from being Pixelated in parts. This will be the best copy circulating as it’s a web rip and it’s great to watch and has a different set list but it has some bloody annoying short drop outs in the audio when flicking in/out from stereo to mono. As said it’s the only version available so worth having until/if something better ever comes along.

Full menu but chapters every 5mins. Region 0 (Pal)

GREEN DAY (LPDVD542)

15.12.97. FILLMORE, SAN FRANCISCO, CA Fillmore (Private) 99mins 7
Filmed from the balcony on the left hand side. Good steady filming with nice close in zoom shots of all members. Lighting is good with average audio. Video is slightly generated but highly watch-able with some slight jolting/wavy picture parts at times hence the 7/10. Rare songs played like Take Back and various covers versions like Heartbreakers Born To Lose with support act D-Generation.

Basic menu with chapters. Region 0 (NTSC)

08.11.95. PARADISO, AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND (Private, 2 Cameras) 60mins 8+
2 camera mix with one angle from center balcony and the other left hand-side balcony. Both fairly steady filming with close in zoom shots. Lighting is good with the vocals a touch low on the noisier songs. I’d say 2nd generation copies with a very good picture.

Basic text menu with chapters every 10mins. Region 0 (Pal)

FOO FIGHTERS (LPDVD547)

10.10.97. METROPOLIS, MONTREAL, CANADA (Private 2 Cameras) 73mins 9

OASIS (LPDVD558)
23.06.95. GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL, UK (Boneheads Birthday Bash)

This is really well done and is the full show. A mixture of TV source and private shot. Private shot if filmed slightly raised over heads on the right hand side. Fairly close but has some shaky filming at times but nice picture quality. Most of the source is TV broadcast mainly from UK TV which is excellent quality and Japanese TV which is slightly generated but still nice. I think the audio (even on the private source) is radio broadcast and the whole things is mixed really well and unbelievably in synch as well. Has bonus footage.

Total running time 80mins full text menu/song titles. Region 0 Pal.

BAD BRAINS
(LPDVD559)
22.05.83. THE LOFT, BERLIN (Pro-Shot) 37mins 8

NIRVANA (LPDVD560)
24.02.94. PALATRUSSARDI, MILAN, ITALY (Private - 3 Camera Mix) 2 Discs

This is a 3 camera mix DVD. The main shot used is from the back right of the venue, the 2nd shot is from the back centre of the venue, the 3rd and very occasionally used angle is from the front left but is in fact from 25.2.94. The source videos used to make this mix are of an unknown generation. Both shots of this show on the DVD are un-circulated in full. There are some very nice shots of all band members. The picture quality is very clear from all angles used. The audio is also good. Song titles appear on the screen before each track.

Running time 77mins. Region 0 (PAL) with full menu, song titles. Two discs.

METALLICA (LPDVD562)
28.04.86. NASSAU COLISEUM, UNIONDALE, NY (Private) 1st Generation 51mins 8

Supposedly a 1st generation, but if so the master tapes suffer from tape flickering damage
so I’ve down graded it. This is done by damage inc. who do the Metallica bootlegs so must be the best version around. The first song is all over the place and then the person filming finds his/her feet. There is still some obstructions of hands/arms but there is some good shots of all members with fairly close in zoom. First songs has cut in middle and so does “Seek & Destroy” . Recommended to me as the best quality private show with Cliff Burton for filming/sound quality etc.

Comes with full menu/song titles. Region 0, NTSC

METALLICA (LPDVD563)
04.05.93. VELODROMO, SANTIAGO, CHILE (Pro Shot) 2 DVD 153mins 9-

Not sure if this is one the Metallica shows filmed by the road crew as there are no TV logos/credits. This is professionally shot and looks like a new overdubbed audio which is perfectly in synch with the visuals. There are some tiny occasional small little rolls which don’t effect the audio hence why I thinks it’s new remixed audio and this is why I have down graded, as the picture is near excellent quality. Great show.

2 Discs with full menus and song titles. Region 0. NTSC

METALLICA (LPDVD564)
20.06.93. ST. JAKOB, SWITZERLAND (Pro Shot) 119mins (1st gen) 9-

Another Metallica show professionally filmed by their road crew. Very well shot as like a TV broadcast with nice audio as well. A few songs there are some slight lines disturbance and near the end a song has some audio crackling. The picture is perfect 95% of the time but for the 5% I have down graded it to a 9-. Great DVD.

Comes with a full menu and song titles. Region 0 NTSC.

06.12.86. RITZ, NEW YORK (Private, 2nd gen) 69mins 8
Filmed on a tripod, centre and at back raised so no obstructions. Nice close in zoom shots of all members. Audio sounds like soundboard so nice, and lighting is fairly good. I’m told a 2nd generation copy from VHS but looks more like a 3rd maybe 4th to me.

MUDHONEY (LPDVD591)
12.08.91. ASTORIA, LONDON (Private, Master) 69mins 9
Filmed by Paolo Lusenti from the balcony with clear view and close in zoom shots of all members. Both sound and lighting are pretty good. Some slight tracking problems towards the end of the show so I’ve dropped it a grade.

No menu and chapters every 5mins. Region 0, PAL

BAD RELIGION (LPDVD592)
13.07.93. CORREGGIO, FESTA UNITA, ITALY (Private) 85mins 10

28.08.94. READING FESTIVAL, BERKSHIRE, UK (Pro Shot) 43mins 8

Nice pro shot classic early Wildhearts. Donnington has a small line moving down the screen which is why I down graded this. Both shows are good quality but suffer from pixalation in parts. Maybe original transferred badly but worth having. Has menu but no chapters.

Running time 60mins. Region 0 PAL.

Looks like a master clone. From the balcony on the left hand side. Some nice close in zoom shots of all members with some obstructions at times. Lighting is good with sound being pretty average as it’s that large big sound due to the size of the venue. European Tour '04 (2nd Leg).

11.02.04. HAMMERSMITH APOLLO, LONDON (Private) 64mins master

NIRVANA (LPDVD599)
21.12.88. EAGLES LODGE, HOQUIAM, WASHINGTON (Private) 25mins 8+
Maybe 2nd generation as the picture is very good. Shot from the back of a small venue. Camerawork is good, there are some nice close shots of band members (waist to head) and the sparse audience in attendance is for the most part kept out of the video. The picture is clear but the audio is slightly distorted. Transferred by Jim Hirte.

Comes with menu, and chapters. Region 0 NTSC

Shot from the stage on Krist's side (left). The shot usually focus's on the entire stage but there are some good close ups of Kurt and Krist, Chad is mostly hidden behind the PA and drums. Krist often obstructs the view of Kurt and audience members sometime walk on stage in front of the camera. Some songs have slight cuts in. Lighting is pretty and the audio is clear and balanced very well considering the tapers position. Could be master or 1st generation copy as it’s excellent quality picture.

it’s worth having. The picture is pretty fussy and still has a lot of flaws/picture rolls (X14).
some close in zoom shots but it’s not great detail. The colour is pretty washed out but the sound is fairly good (soundboard). Has 17mins of stage shot which is better detail but is incomplete. 2 private camera shot. One from left hand side front stage and the other raised above heads back right hand side. Both views are very good and
un-obstructed. Both lighting and audio are good but downfall is it suffers from tape damage which is why I have down graded it as they look 1st generation copies.

Nice un-released 8mm camera footage of the pistols from 1976. Interviews with John Lydon, Paul Cook, Malcolm Mclaren, Vivien Westwood, Siouxsie, Captain Sensible, John Peel etc.

There is also at around 37mins until the encore (55mins) some audio faults where at times the volume is going up and down. Master or maybe 1st generation. Mike Hideous vocals.

15.11.11. ROYAL ABERT HALL, LONDON (Disc 2) 79mins (Private, Multi Camera)

Master DVD. There are hundreds of clips used, some from you tube to give it as many different angles as possible. It also uses a dedicated audio source from a digital audio recorder, so the sound is much better. The clips are all well synced. The view and shot varies from clip to clip. It appears to be based on film shot from the front right, as that is a recurring angle.
However some are more distant, some have slight obstruction and some have black bars are the side as it changes screen size.
But as they are all fairly shot and quickly cut to another view, the overall effect is quite good. With the superior sound this make this a cracking DVD to watch.
The band play everything from 1978 - 1981 covering the first three albums and then the obscure singles and b sides.

13.04.13. CORN EXCHANGE, BEDFORD (Private, Master)
Filmed raised above heads on the left-hand side front stage, very close with clear views and no obstructions.  Not a lot of zoom shots and mainly still shots of all members. Lighting is very good.  New audio (see filmers review below) goes out of synch last 30minutes.

FROM THE FILMER:
Filmed full set apart from first couple minutes of first song. Used Panasonic Lumix dmc zs3 (16:9)for most apart from last two songs as battery went used Fujifilm f20 (4:3) for last couple. First outing with the camera and has come out well. The sound wasn't so good so used audio from Zoom q3 given to me in wav format from MUSICISLOUD. had to cut out some of the chat between songs to help synch it up. Edited with corel video studio pro 5

Direct masters recorded from BBC4 TV. Episodes with  DJ’s Jimmy Saville & Dave Lee Travis child were not re-broadcast because of child abuse allegations  I have put in place appearances from other sources to make it complete. Most of these sources have also been digital masters from Arte French TV or other BBC4 showings with just a few from UK Gold VHS tapes from 1990’s.  All these discs are just great with a great insight of all the punk/new wave bands that appeared on the show. Comes with a menu for each appearance.  120mins long. PAL

BUZZCOCKS  Bandit999 Presents Compilation Volume One (LPDVD748)
22.10.93. TAVASTIA, HELSINKI, FINLAND (Private) 20mins 8-
Filmed from the crowd so heads in way and shaky filming with occasional close in zoom shots, some songs cut. Lighting average with good audio. 4-5th gen and for the collector.

17.07.94. THE PHOENIX FESTIVAL, STRATFORD, UK (Private) 44mins 8+
Possibly a 2nd gen copy. Filmed from the crowd and slightly raised over heads. This is good
filming for a crowd shot and fairly close shot. Audio is slightly muffled at times but nothing to great. Daytime slot so nice and bright. The only annoying thing it has a split second audio click which happens once or twice during most of the songs.

Strange one this as the band play just five songs and  then switch instruments with Grant on Bass and a guy called spot on the drums, Mould on guitar. They just jam for an hour and play mainly instrumental songs and a cover of the Beatles “Ticket To Ride”. Don’t know if it’s a proper gig, a party or rehearsal/soundcheck as not many people are present.  Filmed raised in centre with close in zoom shots and fairly good audio but the picture fairly dark though as not many lights.

Good thing about this is that the audio is pretty good. It’s filmed on tripod centre back.
Steady filming but as it’s filmed at the back even in full zoom it’s not mega close but you can see what’s going on. It’s also fairly dark at times but nothing else really on early Squeeze. Little bit of tracking problems on the last song which also cuts near the very end.

18.04.1998 AKE TAHOE SKI RESORT, LAKE TAHOE (Private) 49mins 8+
This show took place at the base of snow covered mountain and the taper shot the video from a gradient towards the back, slightly left of stage. The shaky for the first couple of minutes but quickly steadies and for the most part shots of the stage are clear and steady. The video quality is quite good with little sign of generation loss, although the picture is slightly 'foggy' with washed out colours, likely because of the conditions. Audio quality is surprisingly clear and crisp for an outdoor amateur video but pretty thin in sound.

Comes with full menu/song titles. NTSC

Part of the UK tour with the band Jailcell Recipes. Some songs are cuts. Generally close good filming and good audio

21.12.91. THE DEN, WIGAN (U.K) (Private) 51mins 8-
Please note this is a different camera angle to LPDVD057 (Welcome To The Show). This is filmed right at the front so suffers from over driven guitars and low vocals.
The other version (one of my fave shows) is a hell of a lot better quality with both sound and filming and longer.

This is a two camera mix of the show. Left side balcony (see my LPDVD185) and is good. The other angle is on the right hand side which also has good close in zoom but does suffer from some slight tape tracking issues at the bottom of the screen. It’s well done and they’ve used the audio from the other angle as it’s better. You also have the choice to play the full show of the right side angle too.

D.R.I. (LPDVD845)
16.10.85. THE RITZ THEATRE, AUSTIN, TEXAS (Private) 54mins 8-
Information below from the person who transferred this early show by D.R.I.
Shot from tripod at upper center of venue. At over 54 minutes, this is the complete show (I have noticed partial shows circulating which are less than 30 min.) Apparently there was a major problem with tracking inherent to the original tape that showed up mostly during the second half of the tape. This may be why partial shows are around, because the horrible sync problems made the second half almost un-watchable. I went through 4 vcrs and finally got one which after trial and error enabled me to get the second half almost problem-free. I seamlessly spliced them up and you will never know it (26:02 is where.) At ~10:06 something happens and when the video comes back it was much different looking and more importantly the sound was half as loud and altered in some way. I did my best to fix the changes, and I have included both the "adjusted" audio track (default) and the original, un-adultered audio track. This was very troublesome, but worth it for some great old-school D.R.I.!

Mixing desk audio (although the guitar is a little low in the mix) was expecting loads of flaws/picture break ups but surprisingly it’s just only five at 0:13 + 10:05 + 21:43 + 28:36 and 37:45.  This is well worth having for early DRI & 42 songs in 54mins.

Comes with full menu/song titles. NTSC

24.10.86. SIMPLON, GRONINGEN, THE NETEHRLANDS (Private) 40mins 8
Filmed on tripod from the balcony on the right hand side. Nice steady filming with close in zoom shots of all members. Audio is soundboard/mixing desk so very nice and a good mix.
A few split second interference click noises and odd picture crinkling moments but over so quick it has no real affect to the show which is really good. 2nd gen maybe as good picture.

Glitch 20:23. No menu or chapter points so needs re-authoring really. PAL

Shot from on the left side of the stage. Vocals are pretty low, lighting is OK. Fairly steady filming (Not lot of Bill the drummer). First song cuts in and has one cut in middle of “Sugar & Spice”. Not a perfect audio but can make out the songs roughly. Supposedly from a master, ummm.
